On October 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Bartsits received the participants of the 2026 World Domino Championship Almas Gabuniia and Said Ashuba.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, Lasha Avidzba, and the head of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia for interaction with international organizations, Saria Dzhopua.

During the conversation, Oleg Bartsits congratulated Almas Gabuniia on the high result shown at the tournament in Spain.

The Minister noted that the achieved result speaks about serious preparation, professionalism and focus on victory.

Special congratulations were addressed to the Domino Federation of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Oleg Bartsits described the performance of the Abkhazian athletes as a significant and prestigious result. It was noted that the national team of the Republic of Abkhazia competed in Spain with an incomplete team due to the persistent intervention of Georgia.

Oleg Bartsits pointed out that these restrictions are a consequence of the isolationist and discriminatory line consistently pursued by Georgia, and at the same time stated that they did not affect the activity of the Abkhazian team and its decent result.

The Minister expressed special gratitude to the President of the International Domino Federation, Manuel Oquendo, noting the balanced, humanistic and fair nature of his position.

The parties also discussed preparations for the World Domino Championship, which will take place in October 2027 in the Republic of Abkhazia.

Oleg Bartsits stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attaches priority importance to the upcoming event and confirmed its readiness to continue related work.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that the State Committee of the Republic of Abkhazia for Youth Affairs and Sports provides the necessary support for the development and activities of the Domino Federation of the Republic of Abkhazia, the participation of Abkhazian athletes in international competitions, as well as preparations for the World Domino Championship in the Republic of Abkhazia in 2027.

The Minister assured that the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia will provide the necessary assistance to athletes in participating in high-level international competitions.
