On October 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Bartsits met with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Abkhazia, Maxim Litvinov.
The meeting was also attended by Lasha Avidzba, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia; Dzhemal Bganba, Head of the Department for Strategic Cooperation; and Sabina Lakoba, Head of the International Legal Department.
During the meeting, the primary focus was on discussing specific instances where citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia—who also hold citizenship of the Russian Federation—have encountered difficulties while crossing the state border of the Russian Federation at Moscow airports.
The Abkhazian side expressed concern regarding the increasing number of cases in which citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia, who also obtain Russian citizenship, have been denied passing the border control when entering or leaving the Russian Federation while using their Abkhazian passports.
Both sides noted a mutual interest in continued cooperation to promptly resolve this issue within the framework of existing bilateral agreements.
